This fall I did a shoot for the Fish Town Preservation Society. The goal was to create an image library that could be used for a variety of projects throughout the year. More specifically we were shooting the “Faces of Fishtown” documenting the people that work, live and play at our beloved Leland Fish Town. I love when a project like this comes together. With a little planning and couple hours of shooting the client now has a great image library that enforces the brand and looks cohesive. I was happy to donate my time to the cause please help by spreading the word around.

My next camera – Canon C300

My next camera? Maybe. After doing some serious video shooting with the 5d & 60d this past few months I’m quickly finding the limitations of the DSLRs. Most of the problems come from the “moire” issues, weird stair stepping and strange artifacts caused by, to my understanding, making a 21meg sensor produce a 3meg HD video signal. I love my DSLRs, there small, have awesome shallow depth of field and are pretty amazing in low light.

Canon has released the new C300 which is the answer to all of the DSLR issues. The catch, it DOES NOT take still images. Everybody’s geeked about the Red Scarlet but the workflow issues are hard to ignore. The C300 is the next logical step up for the DSLR video shooter. The biggest step being the price… $13k!

This ad is running right now for Boyne Mt Resort. Great concept from the clever team at Greenlight Marketing. The talent was absolutely baking after about 45 minutes in full ski gear.

EdTech Magazine

Here’s a portrait I shot for EdTech Magazine and the wonderful folks at TMG. It’s a trade publication geared towards higher education institutions. This particular article was featuring the head chef at Baker Culinary Institute of Michigan and there hi-tech kitchen.

The trickle down effect of technology is quite amazing and in the imaging world things are moving at a blistering pace. The Red Scarlet has finally been released and the specs are amazing with a price that’s within reach of working professionals. Basically this is a camera that shoots full print resolution images at 24frames/sec. In practice you could be shooting video and literally select a frame from that video to be used as the still image for the print campaign…. Crazy.

No exact date on shipping. Stay tuned.

Lankford Design Business Profile

We shot a short video piece for Lankford Design, a local interior design company. Scott and his team do amazing work and we felt that video would be a great way to articulate their story. Never before has it been so easy to produce and deliver video content to an audience. Publish the video on YouTube then re-purpose it on Facebook, Twitter and blogs.

I’ve always enjoyed telling stories with images. Now with video, I can tell longer more intricate stories. Exciting times we live live in!

New Work – Stills + Motion

Fresh off the cards. A little test shoot we did in collaboration with the Matthew Agency, a spectacular talent agency based out of Grand Rapids Michigan. We’re always shooting and expanding portfolio and we wanted to get away from the sandy beaches and sparkling water (not really sure why). Grand Rapids was a great backdrop for an urban look and I can’t speak highly enough of the talent – super great attitudes!

We also shot a little motion test. This is becoming more common; shoot the stills and run some video with the same talent and locations. It’s great because your video has the same look and feel helping the overall consistency of the brand.
